There is a phrase that is repeated numerous times throughout Virgil’s writings - “mirabile dictu”. Translated into English as “marvelous to say”, it precedes news that is so wonderful that the speaker marvels at his opportunity to speak it. This celebration of speech, of sharing something with others, echoed in the famous appeal to the Muses at the beginning of epics, is intimately tied to the recognition of the transcendent power that comes from sharing joy, truth, and beauty with others. In the modern world, filled with the heralding of doom and gloom, there is a great need for marvelous things, and so this magazine was born.
Mirabile Dictu is an online magazine that shares articles, artwork, music, and creative writing that make us consider, marvel at, and appreciate our world and its history. We welcome and encourage you into our community, and to celebrate the joy that can be found in mutual love for the True, the Good and the Beautiful.
